POPauthd 2.7 (Stable) by Michelle Brownsworth - Thursday, February 7th 2002 03:26 EST

About: POPauthd is a Perl-based daemon that uses POP to authorize connecting hosts for SMTP relaying. It is particularly useful to authenticate roaming users with IP addresses that change often. The daemon runs in the background, watching the syslog for successful POP logins. When it sees one it enters the IP in sendmail's access database, giving the host authorization to relay through the server. The entries can be expired after a prescribed, configurable period of time with a companion script run via crontab.

Changes: Ths version changes the name of the "access.reject" file to "access.static" to better reflect its function for listing static addresses, both REJECT and RELAY.

Papercut News Server 0.7.1 by João Prado Maia - Thursday, February 7th 2002 03:21 EST

About: Papercut is a multi-threaded news server written in Python. Its main objective is to integrate existing Web-based message board software (Phorum on the first few versions) with a Usenet front-end. However, its extensibility enables developers to write their own container for the storage of the Usenet articles (messages). That means that the code is extensible enough that you could write new containers to integrate the news server with other Web message board projects or even other ways to store the messages.

Changes: The server now correctly handles the use of HEAD, BODY and ARTICLE with non-existent messages. Several bug fixes related to the Phorum backend were also fixed. A problem was resolved related to the use of Outlook Express as a newsreader with Papercut.
