Initial Customers Experience up to 75x Performance Boost

SALT LAKE CITY, Nov. 13, 2002 - Linux NetworX announced today the availability of its Evolocity(TM) Life Sciences Cluster, a system designed specifically for bioinformatic and genomic researchers. This ready-to-run system combines the benefits of a Linux NetworX cluster configuration with popular life science applications such as BLAST, HMMer, ClustalW, Amber, Gaussian, and Sort.

An initial user of the Evolocity Life Sciences Cluster, a federal research agency, recorded a 70x performance increase over its previous computing solution at a similar cost and system size. The research agency completed BLAST searches on two species of cattle in 20 hours compared to the 70 days it took on their prior computing platform.

"Implementing efficient, cost-effective computing solutions is critical to maintaining a productive organization," said Greg Harhay, a bioinformaticist with the agency. "Computer solutions that generate major performance improvements enable us to save significant time while providing accurate and timely results."

The Evolocity Life Sciences Cluster provides biotechnology organizations with improved performance over a traditional supercomputer platform at a significantly better price/performance ratio. The cluster is ready to process data immediately and includes Linux NetworX Evolocity hardware, ICE(TM) cluster management tools, and customized life science applications.
