Foundry Networks Ranked #1 in Shipments of 10 Gigabit Ethernet

SAN JOSE, Calif.,-- Foundry Networks(R), Inc. (NASDAQ:FDRY) , a performance and total solutions leader for end-to-end switching and routing, announced that a recent Dell'Oro Group report ranked Foundry #1 in the growing markets for Layer 3 Gigabit Ethernet and 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GbE) modular network switches for the second quarter of 2003. In particular, Dell'Oro reported that total worldwide shipments of 10GbE ports more than doubled from the first quarter, demonstrating that deployments of this emerging technology are beginning to accelerate. Dell'Oro Group is an independent market research firm specializing in competitive analysis of the networking and telecommunications industries.

Dell'Oro estimated that Foundry shipped more than 40 percent of the Layer 3 10GbE modular ports sold worldwide during the second quarter. Foundry also shipped more than 20 percent of the Layer 3 Gigabit Ethernet modular ports during 2Q 2003 according to the report, representing the fifth consecutive quarter Foundry has commanded the top spot in this market.

"These achievements are the result of Foundry's continuing focus on high performance networks and our ability to deliver products based on open standards," said Ken Cheng, vice president and general manager of the Enterprise Business Unit at Foundry Networks. "Our 6,000 customers operate some of the world's most demanding and powerful networks, and were some of the earliest adopters of Gigabit Ethernet and 10 Gigabit Ethernet technology."

Foundry's products leverage all of the benefits of Ethernet while providing the next level of performance and features required by the most demanding network applications. Foundry was first to market with Layer 3 Gigabit and 10GbE switches, and has been shipping 10GbE technology since 2001. Foundry also was first to market with terabit-capacity Layer 3 10GbE switches with its introduction earlier this year of the Terathon(TM) platform and the first two Terathon-architecture products, the BigIron(R) MG8 backbone switch and the NetIron(R) 40G router.

The Amsterdam Internet Exchange recently became the first organization to choose Foundry's Terathon architecture for its core network infrastructure, with its purchase of the BigIron MG8 switch.

Henk Steenman, Chief Technology Officer of AMS-IX said, "AMS-IX chose Foundry Networks again for this growth milestone in our history because of the excellent working relationship and the high-quality technological innovation offered by Foundry. A further decisive factor was the superior support that Foundry is offering in carrying out these changes."

Mr. Cheng continued, "High performance, high speed networks are crucial to meet customer business requirements such as mobility, convergence, high-availability computing and web-based applications. We are well positioned to take advantage of the growing deployment of GbE and 10GbE technology in enterprise backbones, campus/metro infrastructure and data centers."
