TYAN® drives Server Market forward with New High-Performance Dual AMD Opteron™ Rackmount

Tyan's Latest Barebones Rackmount Delivers Incredible Speed and Performance for 1U Server Space

Fremont, CA, July 8th, 2004 - In a move to enable higher performance and increase server network value, Tyan today introduced the newest addition to the Transport barebones series: the dual AMD Opteron™-based Transport GX28 (B2881). Delivering up to four (4) 3.5" drive bays with hot-swap capability on either a U320 SCSI or Serial ATA backplane, the Transport GX28 also comes with a full frontal suite of LED indicators, dual front access USB ports, and a slim CD-ROM drive that comes standard. In addition to these exciting features, the Transport GX28 also has a specially-designed set of two (2) rear PCI-X expansion ports capable of supporting 133/100MHz speeds, a 400W power supply with PFC, and a thermally-advantaged design for optimized cooling throughout the system. Everything is laid out in a 26.5" depth chassis for easy integration into any network infrastructure.

At the system level, the Transport GX28 (B2881) is based on Tyan's widely-acclaimed Thunder K8SR (S2881). Using a breakthrough architecture which offers a high bandwidth and low latency memory subsystem, HyperTransport™ technology for standard-setting I/O performance, and cutting edge 64-bit performance, the Transport GX28 (B2881) provides nothing less than the power to deliver the next generation of server solutions for any range of applications. The Transport GX28 (B2881) also features support for up to 16GB of DDR400 (PC3200) Registered Memory with ECC for server-level reliability, integrated dual Gigabit Ethernet ports, a built-in 8MB ATI® RAGE XL™ video controller, full suite of power management functions, and optional server management capability. All of this provides customers with an unprecedented level of flexibility in the Transport GX28 (B2881) for the development of server systems.

The Transport GX28 (B2881) is sampling now, and will reach production levels in mid-July of this year.
