TYAN's launches the Transport GS12, a highly-flexible sub-1U rackmount server
Posted by Kenneth Farmer, Wednesday July 21 2004 @ 06:23PM EDT

FREMONT, CA, July 21st, 2004 - Bringing new definition to the compact server market, Tyan®, a global provider of award-winning server and workstation platforms, today launched the Transport GS12 (B5103G12), a highly-flexible sub-1U rackmount server that fits most any application required by customers. Using the high-performance abilities of the Intel® Pentium® 4 processor with an 800/533MHz Front Side Bus, possible segments that could use the Transport GS12 (B5103G12) include those who require firewall servers, gateways and routers, print serving and data serving solutions, file storage and delivery boxes, email serving, and much more.

The Transport GS12 design is eye-catching from first glance. With a front LCD system status display and easily-accessible six-button keypad, dual-port front USB access, the ability to support two (2) internal 3.5" Serial ATA or IDE drives, SATA RAID levels 0, 1 support, a 300W power supply with PFC, and a triple-path cooling system, all offering capabilities of a full server box in a small sub-1U form factor at an incredible depth of 15.3".

System-level features include support for up to 4GB of Unbuffered DDR400 (PC3200) memory with ECC/non-ECC support, integrated ATI® RAGE XL™ 8MB video, a single 32-bit PCI rear expansion slot, integrated CSA and PCI-based (dual) Gigabit Ethernet ports with ASF 2.0 support, "smart" fan control, plus substantial support for a wide range of Network OS' including Windows 2000/XP/2003, Red Hat 9.0, SuSE 8.1, and FreeBSD 4.6.2.

"Flexibility and size are two of the top concerns from customers looking for solutions to support their entry to mid-range server applications," said Don Clegg, VP of Marketing and Strategic Programs at Tyan. "Tyan's Transport GS12 (B5103G12) compact sub-1U server appliance has the ability to fit any number of requirements in a small amount of space."

The Transport GS12 (B5103G12) is now sampling worldwide and will reach mass production in August of this year.
