Linux Networx Adds Datacenter Environmental Modeling to Professional Services Offering

Salt Lake City, Sept. 15, 2004 - Linux Networx announced today a new professional service that provides detailed simulations of the airflow in current and proposed data centers. By partnering with Fluent Inc, the market leaders in computational fluid dynamics (CFD), Linux Networx can provide detailed CFD animations of datacenter airflow by running Fluent’s Airpak modeling software on a Linux Networx Evolocity® cluster. Airpak simulations reveal the airflow and temperature distribution in a datacenter to better understand potential ventilation problems before a computing system is installed.

“Understanding datacenter airflow is extremely valuable because improper ventilation can cause systems to overheat and compromise productivity,” said Padmanabhan Iyer, director of training and professional services for Linux Networx. “By partnering with Fluent to provide Airpak modeling, Linux Networx can help organizations ensure proper airflow in their datacenters to maximize their cluster’s return on investment.”

Airpak simulations are another service provided by Linux Networx to deliver highly productive computing systems. Linux Networx simulates a variety of cooling scenarios to obtain an optimized solution. From the results of the Airpak simulations, Linux Networx works with the customer in designing optimal sizing and placement of racks and cooling equipment to maximize the utilization of their ventilation and air conditioning. Customers either building a new datacenter or adding computer hardware to an existing site, will benefit from a thorough analysis of their projected infrastructure. Airpak simulations from Linux Networx can help reduce customers’ costs in cooling equipment and increase reliability and longevity of their cluster systems.
