State-Sponsored, Open Public Computing Grid To Open Soon

TechWeb: A system billed as the first state-sponsored open public Internet computing grid has been tested and is ready for use in November, according to its provider, the West Virginia High Technology Consortium (WVHTC) Foundation.
Dubbed the Global Grid Exchange (GGE), it is a partnership with the WVHTC and Parabon Computation Inc., whose grid computing platform provides underlying technology. The GGE links and aggregates idle and unused computer mainframe and PC processing resources in the West Virginia. Verizon West Virginia is providing the communications infrastructure for the grid.
