Verari Systems Launches New Octet 8-Way AMD Opteron(TM) Processor-Based SMP Server at Supercomputing 2004
New Server Delivers Quantum Leap in Scalability and Performance to x86 Application Base
SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- November 9, 2004 -- Verari Systems(TM), the premier developer of powerful, platform-independent computer systems, announced today the launch of the new Octet 8-Way AMD Opteron(TM) processor-based SMP server. The Verari Systems Octet 8-Way’s design unleashes the full potential of AMD64 technology with Direct Connect Architecture, delivering large SMP capabilities to the x86 application base that has to date been the last stronghold of proprietary RISC architectures. The Verari Systems Octet 8-Way server supports eight AMD Opteron 800 Series processors, 64GB of memory, and eight SATA hard-drives.
The AMD Opteron 800 series processor was introduced by AMD in June 2003 for 8-way servers, but until now the processor has been used primarily in 4-way servers. The AMD Opteron processor has built-in HyperTransport(TM) technology that provides up to 6.4GBs of scalable bandwidth interconnect between processors, memory, I/O subsystems, as well as other chipsets. The Verari Systems Octet server offers the benefits of AMD64 technology with Direct Connect Architecture such as optimized memory performance, improved Symmetrical Multiprocessing (SMP) linearity, and lower latency I/O -- now in a high-performance, scalable 8-way SMP design.
“In addition to eight blazingly fast CPUs, the Octet’s 64GB RAM capacity is especially compelling for applications requiring large memory such as Electronic Design Automation,” said David Driggers, CEO of Verari Systems. “This launch reaffirms and validates Verari Systems’ commitment to provide the highest value, highest performance products faster than any other vendor.”
Verari Systems will display the Octet 8-Way server at Supercomputing 2004 booth # 1231 at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center in Pittsburgh, November 9-11, 2004.
Price and Availability
The Octet 8-Way server will ship to customers in December 2004. Prices start at $23,000. For more detailed Octet 8-Way server product information, please visit http://www.verari.com.
