PolyServe Shared Data Clustering Software Now Supports 64-bit Intel Xeon Processors

BEAVERTON, Ore., Sept. 26 -- File serving and database applications powered by PolyServe Matrix Server(TM) shared data clustering software are gaining the performance and memory advantages of the 64-bit Intel(R) Xeon(TM) processor with Intel Extended Memory 64 Technology (Intel EM64T), PolyServe announced today.

PolyServe has added support for the 64-bit Intel Xeon processor to the latest release of Matrix Server, version 3.1 for Linux. Matrix Server software provides the technology foundation for PolyServe's scalable file serving and database consolidation solutions.

Matrix Server 3.1 offers full EM64T support for both Novell SUSE SLES 9 and Red Hat 4.0 Linux offerings. This added capability enables PolyServe shared data clusters to support larger databases that require 64-bit memory addressing and offer increased I/O performance on 64-bit file serving applications.

"Intel's 64-bit Xeon processor technology is a leading server platform for enterprise data centers," said Mike Stankey, president and CEO of PolyServe. "PolyServe is making utility computing based on Intel Architecture servers a reality for enterprise data centers."

PolyServe solutions combine clusters of Intel Architecture-based servers with high availability services, a cluster management application called Matrix Manager and on-demand system server and storage scalability for a best- in-class price-performance utility computing platform.

Intel EM64T is an enhancement to Intel's IA-32 architecture. The enhancement allows Intel processors to run newly written 64-bit code and access larger amounts of memory, including more than 4 gigabytes (GB) of both virtual and physical memory.
