RAID Inc. partners with SilverStorm to Showcase InfiniBand Technology at Supercomputing 2005
Posted by Kenneth Farmer, Friday November 11 2005 @ 07:44AM EST

Lawrence, MA —RAID Inc. today announced its plans to partner with SilverStorm Technologies at the Supercomputing conference November 14-17, 2005 in Seattle . RAID will be showcasing a SAN comprised of the latest storage technologies including 4Gbit FC, SAS, iSCSI, SATA-2 as well as SilverStorms's InfiniBand solution. RAID will be showcasing SilverStorm's RAC Accelerator technology for Oracle RAC database applications. RAC Accelerator dramatically reduces CPU utilization, increases cluster performance and allows Oracle RAC database applications to scale to very large cluster sizes.

RAID has partnered with SilverStorm and Microsoft for the show to demonstrate a cluster supporting Microsoft's Compute Cluster Edition software - a complete 64bit [x64] Windows-based HPC solution that addresses cluster setup and management, application development, and job scheduling. The cluster will incorporate SilverStorm's 12 port 4x (10Gb/s) InfiniBand switch as well as RAID's high performance storage.

SilverStorm's portfolio of director-class InfiniBand based switching and virtual gateway solutions provide users with a low latency, multi-protocol interconnect fabric that supports cluster inter-process communication and shared storage and networking I/O access. Cluster performance is significantly improved and the data center is dramatically simplified.

In addition to the live product demonstrations running in both SilverStorm's and RAID's booths, SilverStorm solutions will also be showcased in an extensive set of customers and technology and channel partner booths at Supercomputing. These include Apple, Appro, Fujitsu, Intel, Mellanox, Microsoft, PathScale, Rackable Systems, Sun Microsystems, Verari Systems, and Virginia Tech. SilverStorm is also partnering with Hewlett Packard who has provided a full rack of HP servers for use in SilverStorm's booth application demonstrations.

“RAID is excited to partner with SilverStorm for this show to demonstrate cluster solutions that address the ever changing needs of their customers, including simplified management, setup and scheduling using a high performance, low cost solution,” stated Marc DiZoglio , Executive VP at RAID Inc. “We feel that IB can also play a very important role not only from a network topology, but also as an edge for faster and more cost effective replication and grid applications. Our current work with Microsoft, Redhat and Oracle has been very exciting and we hope to have IB solutions to address many applications in 2006.”
