Next Generation: Integrated software solutions company Terra Soft will be constructing a supercomputing cluster based on the PS3's Cell processor and the Linux OS.
HPCWire reports that tomorrow, Terra Soft will formally announce "the construction of the world's first Cell-based supercomputing cluster," which comes from a partnership between Sony and Yellow Dog Linux developer Terra Soft.
Sony contracted Terra Soft in August to build a 3,000 square foot extension of Terra Soft's existing facilities in Loveland, Colorado. At that location, the company will build a test cluster called "E.Coli" and a larger production cluster deemed "Amoeba."
