DataDirect Networks Debuts S2A Petascale Storage Solution at SC06
Posted by Ken Farmer, Monday November 13 2006 @ 09:05PM EST

DataDirect Networks Inc. today unveiled the future of petascale computing with the industry's first petascale storage system, the S2A Petascale Storage Solution. The S2A Petascale Storage Solution is specifically designed for high performance, high capacity petascale applications, delivering GB/s to Terabytes per second (TB/s) aggregate I/O performance, and petabytes of high density storage capacity in a single solution for cost effective petascale computing. The S2A Petascale Storage Solution delivers the industry's best price per performance, and best price/capacity per square foot solutions.

The S2A Petascale Storage Solution is based on DataDirect's industry proven Silicon Storage Appliance (S2A) technology which fully integrates a parallel, non-blocking architecture with SAN functionality in one simple, easy to use intelligent device. The S2A delivers high performance, highly reliable storage solutions that are easy to install, easy to scale and easy to manage. The S2A's unique architecture and consolidated functionality removes the complexity, congestion, latency and contention of generic RAID systems delivering very high performance with dramatically lower total cost of ownership and improved return on IT investments.

The S2A Petascale Storage Solution will fully integrate the S2A technology with parallel or shared cluster file systems and storage servers into a complete turnkey solution with full solution installation and support. Backed by an 8th generation architecture and years of cluster storage deployment experience, the S2A Petascale Storage Solution provides the industry's most reliable and easiest to use petascale storage solutions.

This optimal block level and file system performance design supports a broad range compute clusters and will power compute clusters from IBM, Dell, HP, Cray, SGI, Bull and others. Unique to this offering is the ability to leverage the S2A Parallel Architecture scaling storage clusters aggregate I/O up to TB/s cost effectively. The S2A Petascale Storage solution will support petabytes of Fibre Channel or SATA disk storage with native InfiniBand and or FC-4 storage interconnects and native InfiniBand or GigE client communications. And like all S2A solutions, the S2A Petascale Storage Solution will support a variety of high performance networks and be application and system level tuned with specific industry expertise.

"DDN's deep domain expertise in HPC and cluster computing deployments has allowed us to design a hardware and software collaboration that will meet petascale requirements cost effectively, enabling petascale computing," said Alex Bouzari, CEO of DataDirect Networks. "This 8th generation solution will eliminate I/O bottlenecks, ushering in the age of petascale computing."

DataDirect Networks' is showing the S2A Petascale Storage Solution at Booth 1424.

Supercomputing 2006 is located at the Tampa Convention Center in Tampa, Florida November 11th to 17th.
