Allinea Software ports Distributed Debugging Tool (DDT) to CRAY XT TM Linux

Allinea Software, an innovative tools company based in Warwick (UK), today announced that it has ported its popular Distributed Debugging Tool (DDT) to CRAY XT TM systems with Linux environments.

Allinea has been working closely with Cray, as well as key end-users, to provide customers with the best available technology for parallel debugging. “Very large-scale, multi-core MPP architectures such as the Cray XT systems require users to develop increasingly scalable applications. This in turn drives the need for a powerful and scalable debugging solution,” said David Lecomber, CTO of Allinea. “We are pleased to announce that DDT is now supporting Cray customers and we believe that DDT on Cray’s XT systems will fully meet the requirements and expectations of its most demanding end-users.”

DDT is recognised as the industry’s most technically advanced tool for debugging parallel applications, with a graphical interface that is widely acclaimed for its ease-of-use and its ability to control and monitor the state of large numbers of processes and threads. DDT’s architecture is particularly suited for massively parallel architectures such as the Cray XT architecture, and since the product is well established on the Linux operating system, the port to Cray’s Linux-based environment leverages a significant proportion of its existing capabilities, as well as support for third-party compilers and tools.

DDT is also compatible with other operating systems such as Aix, Linux and Solaris on X86, X86-64, IA64, Power, Cell and UltraSPARC processors. It is compatible with third-party compilers from Absoft, IBM, Intel, Pathscale, the Portland Group, Sun and the GNU compiler suite, as well as all known MPI distributions.
