Clustercorp integrates the Moab Cluster Suite into Rocks+
Posted by Tim McIntire, Wednesday November 14 2007 @ 04:46PM EST

Reno, NV, November 14, 2007 — Clustercorp, the leader in commercial software and support for the Rocks™ cluster distribution, announced the availability of Rocks+Moab, combining two best-of-breed HPC solutions to offer a comprehensive cluster management toolset: Rocks—the leading Linux-based cluster distribution; and Moab Cluster Suite®, which offers ease-of-use and leadership-class workload management. Clustercorp developed Rocks+Moab in collaboration with Cluster Resources as part of a continuing commitment to support the Rocks community.

“Organizations running Rocks will benefit from the addition of the Rocks+Moab cluster solution package, which provides effective systems management solutions,” said Michael Jackson, President of Cluster Resources. “This pairing, which includes Moab Cluster Suite and TORQUE—an open source resource manager—offers guaranteed service levels to users and organizations, higher resource utilization rates, and the ability to process more jobs with the same resources, resulting in an improved ROI.”

Clustercorp’s commercial version of Rocks, “Rocks+”, is first-rate for setting up and managing a stable HPC software stack, and comes complete with enterprise-class support and 3rd party value-adds such as Moab. Rocks+Moab, with its powerful workload and resource managers and ease-of-use interfaces, helps overcome adoption barriers and ensures the efficient deployment and day-to-day running of a cluster from day one. Moab contributes technology that has been acquired for use on more than 40% of the resources of the top 100 systems in the world (June 2007 TOP500 list).

“With Rocks’ current position as the dominant Linux-based cluster solution, it is critical for the community to join forces with leaders in other segments of HPCC to ensure Rocks users have the best overall software stack available,” said Tim McIntire, President of Clustercorp. “We are pleased to announce Rocks+Moab, which gives our users the best resource and workload management solution in the industry.”

Rocks+Moab is built on the Moab Roll, which consists of Moab Cluster Suite, intelligent middleware that provides simple Web-based job management, graphical cluster administration and management reporting tools, and TORQUE open source resource manager. The Moab Roll is available at www.clustercorp.com, and is fully supported in Rocks+.

"We are delighted to see Clustercorp and Cluster Resources working together to make one of the leading commercial resource managers available as a Rocks Roll," said Philip Papadopoulos, PhD, head of the Rocks project at the University of California, San Diego. "Clustercorp founders have been contributors to the Rocks community for several years and understand how their customers need to mix both open source and commercial software to build robust solutions. Providing software as an automatically configured Rocks roll has a very large and beneficial impact for all Rocks users in terms of ease of use and overall system reliability."
