TotalView Technologies Adds Cell Broadband Engine Platform Support to TotalView

New TotalView® Version 8.5 Also Includes Updated IBM® BlueGene®/P Support

Natick, MA- June 17, 2008 - TotalView Technologies, a provider of interactive analysis and debugging tools for serial and parallel codes, today introduced the latest version of its award-winning source code debugger, TotalView 8.5. The new TotalView 8.5 release provides users with the ability to debug applications that take advantage of the Cell Broadband Engine architecture, and delivers enhanced IBM Blue Gene/P support and support for new compilers/operating systems.

TotalView 8.5 supports Cell Broadband Engine-based Linux systems utilizing the IBM Cell Software Development Kit (SDK). Specifically, the new release supports SDK 2.1 on Fedora Core 6, as well as the newer SDK 3.0 on Fedora 7 and Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.1.

IBM Blue Gene/P platform support in TotalView 8.5 has been enhanced to include asynchronous control of threads created by OpenMP and/or Pthreads, support for dynamic libraries, and support for attaching to running executables. The latest BG/P V1R2 drivers are also supported in the new version.

Additionally, TotalView 8.5 includes support for recently released compilers and operating systems including:

- Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 Update 2
- GNU Compiler Collection C/C++ 4.2.3
- Intel® C/C++ Compiler 10.1
- Intel Fortran Compiler 10.1
- Pathscale C/C++ Compiler 3.1
- Pathscale Fortran Compiler 3.1
- PGI C/C++ Compiler 7.2
- PGI Fortran Compiler 7.2

TotalView is a comprehensive source code debugger, analysis, and memory error detection tool that dramatically enhances developer productivity by simplifying the process of debugging parallel, data-intensive, multi-process, multi-threaded or network-distributed applications. Built to handle the complexities of the world’s most demanding applications, TotalView offers a number of advanced features that help speed development and eliminate bugs quickly. It also provides visibility into thread creation and grouping via a full graphical user interface, giving developers the ability to analyze bugs to identify the root cause of problems and manipulate and control threads as needed.
